Legal Commentary on GDPR (Plath) (5th ed.) now fully available

Created by Frank Ingenrieth | Publication News DSGVO

The 2026 edition of the Legal Commentary on GDPR (incl. BDSG and TDDDG) is now fully available in print and online.

The newest edition offers comprehensive commentary on GDPR, BDSG and TDDDG in a single volume. As with previous editions, the core focus remains on GDPR, seamlessly followed by detailed commentaries on BDSG and TDDDG.

Following its Online-First publication in March 2026, the fifth edition is now fully available in both print and digital formats.

Gathered under the editorial leadership of Dr. Kai-Uwe Plath is a remarkable roster of renowned authors. Their individual commentaries are successfully cross-referenced and interlinked - a particularly valuable approach where the GDPR grants national leeway to legislators. With a deliberate, business-oriented focus, the contributors offer a pragmatic, opinionated classification of current case law, interpretation questions, literature references, and EDPB guidelines. To provide this robust background, the work comprehensively takes into account the GDPR recitals, numerous statements by supervisory authorities, and the practical implementation of these regulations across other European countries.

For those navigating Codes of Conduct or Certifications under GDPR: the commentaries on Articles 40 and 42, alongside their related procedural elements and respective monitoring and certification mechanisms (Articles 41 and 43), are highly recommended. These sections were duly (co-)authored by Frank Ingenrieth, LL.M. If you are interested in any other publication by Frank Ingenrieth, check his list of publications

And from personal experience: The commentaries on all other matters and Articles by fellow authors continue to prove an invaluable resource in daily legal advice and compliance implementation.
